What does cheugy mean?
If you're a millennial, chances are you've been called cheugy at some point. But what does the term mean?
Simply put, cheugy refers to anything outdated or no longer cool. It's often used to describe trends that are popular among millennials but are no longer in style. Think of it as the Gen Z version of the term "uncool."
So why is the term gaining popularity on TikTok? Well, many millennials are now in their 30s, and Gen Zers are starting to poke fun at the generational differences between them. Whether it's interior design trends, obsessions with certain TV shows and movies, or wearing certain clothing brands, the term is only meant to poke fun at the generational differences.
So next time you're called cheugy, don't get too offended. It's all in good fun!
Is your home decor cheugy?
Now you may be wondering if your interior design and home decor fall into the category of "cheugy". Ultimately, your style and taste need to reflect what you like and what makes you happy. The key is surrounding yourself with pieces that you love instead of avoiding items you'd otherwise like because they might be considered "cheugy".
Trends are always changing, and something that's categorized as "cheugy" today may not be tomorrow. So, if you see a home decor item or piece of furniture that you like, don't automatically write it off because it might be considered "cheugy". Instead, consider if it's something that you would enjoy having in your home. If the answer is yes, then go for it!
Cheugy home decor trends-
We are seeing a shift away from traditional wallpaper patterns and towards large, bold murals. Chinoiserie, tropical, floral, and natural stone-inspired designs are becoming increasingly popular, as they add a touch of luxury and drama to any space. These statement-making wallpapers are perfect for making a bold design statement in any room.
Wallpapers are becoming an increasingly important element of home decor in India and abroad. They are now used in bedrooms, lobbies, kid's rooms, living rooms, dining areas, study rooms, lounges, and offices. Another significant trend is the use of custom-made wallpaper designs which are unique to your design requirements. People are becoming more comfortable buying wallpapers online.
Wallpapers offer a unique way to add personality and style to your home. They can be used to create a focal point in a room or to add interest to an otherwise bland space. There are a variety of wallpaper designs available, from simple patterns to more elaborate murals. Custom-made wallpaper designs can also be created to match your specific needs.
Wallpapers are a relatively inexpensive way to make a big impact on your home decor. They are also easy to install and maintain. With the wide range of designs available, there is sure to be a wallpaper that is perfect for your home.
If you're looking for home decor that is cookie-cutter and unoriginal, then cheugy home decor is probably for you. Trendy for the sake of trendy, you'll see cheugy decor in every Pinterest post or decor Instagram feed. Some of the most popular cheugy trends include rolling barn doors, shiplap, and generic word quotes. While these trends may be popular, they're not necessarily my favourite. Rolling barn doors are impractical and shiplap is expensive and overused. I much prefer wallpaper accent walls. As for generic word quotes, it's better to check out Etsy or art fairs for cool finds by local artists. In my opinion, it's more fun to develop your style than follow trends.
- Televisions are a thing of the past
In recent years, television has begun to lose its hold as the centre of the home. As media becomes ever-present and overly accessible, focusing a living room around a large TV media centre has begun to feel clunky and distracting to socializing in shared spaces. Instead of a television, centring attention on artwork or a natural view will help quiet the mind, drawing attention to the people in the room instead of the screen.
Without the television as a focal point, the room can feel more open and inviting, making it a better space for socializing and relaxing. The television can still be present in the room, but it doesn't need to be the star of the show. Artwork, furniture, and even the view out the window can all take centre stage instead, creating a more peaceful and enjoyable space.
If you're looking to add interest and warmth to your kitchen without going overboard on colour, consider keeping things simple and uniform. Layering with a textured backsplash, wood accents, and mixed metals can give your kitchen the visual interest it needs to stand out. Plus, by keeping the colour palette simple, you can easily change things up in the future if you want to give your kitchen a new look.
Espresso-coloured kitchen cabinets have been popular for a while now, but they are starting to become passé. Modular carpet tiles are becoming more popular, and they are easier to clean and maintain than traditional carpets. Espresso-coloured cabinets are also not as easy to keep clean as white cabinets, so they are not likely to last as long.
There are some design trends that we can do without. Cool grey walls are one of them – they always remind me of battleships! I also think it's time to say goodbye to shiplap and barn doors. They're just not chic. And one last tip: accent colour walls need to go. They're way too busy and they just look like something you would do in college, not at home. Painting a room in one colour is much more sophisticated and stylish.
